Iran's national football team is captained by Alireza Jahanbakhsh. He is a former Brighton player and currently plays for Feyenoord. In an interview, he confessed that he did not fancy being paired with England in their World Cup group. He said,

"Not really, to be honest! England was the last team I would have picked, but it happened! England could easily have three top teams in the World Cup right now, they're really well organised with the manager. They've worked together for a long time now, and they know their strategy."

The coach of Iran's national football team is Dragan Skocic. He was appointed head coach in 2020 ahead of Ali Daei and Amir Ghalenoei. The Croatian coached Sanat Naft before accepting the role as the national team coach of Iran.
