  • Red Bull Leipzig edged Rangers FC 1-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinal at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig
  • Angelino's superb volley from outside the box in the 85th minute from the Scottish team's resistance after a manful defensive display
  • The visitors now have no choice but to come out and play at the Ibrox Stadium next week Thursday in the second leg

Red Bull Leipzig will take a slight 1-0 lead to Scotland next Thursday after edging Rangers FC at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinal.

Angelino's sensational strike from outside the 18-yard area in the 85th minute finally squashed the visiting team's resistance after an outstanding defensive display. The Scots did not seem particularly interested in winning the game, instead being set up to try and escape Germany with a draw if not nicking something from the match.

The statistics proved this, with Domenico Tedesco's team dominating possession, with 71% of it in their favour. However, Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men were only out-shot 10-7, only managing to get one on target on a difficult night.

However, they will be happy with their defensive effort, as their composed and resolute effort frustrated the home team as well as the supporters.

Next week Thursday's atmosphere at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow is expected to be a raucous one which might unsettle the German team. Should Rangers score the first goal, it might prove very difficult for the visitors to get back into the match.

However, they won't bother themselves with the future, instead savouring this victory.

Villarreal fans refuse to leave Anfield after Champions League defeat to Liverpool

The closing stages of Liverpool's Champions League clash with Villarreal was marked with dramatic scenes after Villarreal's phenomenal supporters refused to leave Anfield.

As reported by Sports Brief, Villarreal had just lost 2-0 against Jurgen Klopp's men in the Wednesday night, April 27, encounter, with Sadio Mane inspiring the Reds to a comfortable win.

The semi-final clash was finely poised at the break before Jordan Henderson netted the opener in the 53rd minute to hand Liverpool the lead.
