  • The 22-year old has reportedly rejected a move to Newcastle, giving United the upper hand in signing him
  • Arsenal and Liverpool are also reportedly interested in his services, and the Uruguayan is currently valued at €130m

Manchester United are among the leading contenders to sign Benfica ace Darwin Nunez.

Nunez was Described as an ‘absolute beast’ earlier this month during a podcast discussing his display against Liverpool, and has emerged as a hot prospect for a number of top clubs in Europe.

The 22-year old has been crucial for Benfica this season as he has helped the side reach the Champions League quarter-final. In addition, he is Portugal Primera Liga’s top scorer.

According to Manchester Evening News, United are now favourite to land the rising star, after he reportedly rejected a move to Newcastle United.

Super-agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly been tasked with the daunting task of engineering a move for the young forward, and it is believed there is a high chance a deal could be struck.

Mendes was responsible for bringing Bruno Fernandes from the Primera Liga to the Premier League in 2020.

Nunez’s price

Because of his immense talents in front of goal, Nunez is unlikely to come cheaply, and his market value currently stands at €130m.

Arsenal and Liverpool also remain interested in the forward, although the Gunners will be more intent on acquiring him, especially with the impending departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

Arsenal linked with Manchester City star

Elsewhere, Arsenal will look to sign Gabriel Jesus, with the Brazilian poised to exit Manchester City at the end of the current season.

It is understood that Arsenal’s technical director Edu has been engaging in silent talks with the Brazilian’s representatives for months, and Arteta would not mind taking up his services, having worked with him at Manchester City when he was Pep Guardiola’s number 2.

Jesus has been quite stable at Manchester City, although his current deal at the Etihad expires in 2023, and there have been no talks of renewing it.

He has been in great form for City in recent weeks, scoring five goals in two appearances, including four against Watford.
