  • Belmadi accused Gambian referee Papa Bakary Gassama of conniving with Cameroon to rob Algeria of a World Cup slot
  • Cameroon left it late to secure a ticket to the World Cup after beating Algeria in Algiers to progress on the away goal rule

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has dragged Algerian national team coach Djamel Belmadi to FIFA over his comments against the Indomitable Lions.

Belmadi was not impressed with the way the Gambian referee Papa Bakary Gassama officiated the World Cup play-offs between his side and Cameroon in March.

The 46-year-old went on to lodge a complaint with the Confederations of African Football (CAF), demanding a replay.

Belmadi also suggested that Cameroon connived with Gambian referee Gassama to rob Algeria of a World Cup slot.

Algeria won the first leg 1-0 away in Yaounde and were favourites to qualify for the Mundial but the Indomitable Lions recorded a 2-1 victory in the second leg to seal a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement released on Monday evening, the FECAFOOT has dragged Belmadi to the Ethics Committee of FIFA to take action against him for his unfortunate comments.

Five countries - Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, Tunisia, and Morocco - will represent Africa at the 2021 FIFA World Cup which is set to start from November 21 and run to December 18 in Qatar.

Cameroon legend Samuel Eto'o rejects salary as FECAFOOT president

Sports Brief earlier reported that Legendary Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o has been praised since assuming office as the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation.

The 41-year-old's promise not to receive salaries as President was fulfilled as such wages were diverted towards player wellbeing.

The Cameroon icon advocated for high wages for players in both the men's and women's league which started over the weekend.
