Liverpool close gap on Man City to 1 point as Everton drop to relegation zone

Earlier, Sports Brief Liverpool are still on course for a quadruple after beating stubborn Everton 2-0 on Sunday, April 24, at the Anfield stadium.

Two second-half goals from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi ensured Liverpool move up to 79 points just one behind league leaders Man City with five games left to go in the Premier League.

The Reds broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute after a nice link-up play between Salah and Origi, as the former crossed into the box for an unmarked Robertson to nod home.

But there was a bit of controversy just before the goal as Everton had a penalty shout ignored by the referee.

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi had played teammates Gordon clean through on goal but the Englishman went down inside the box.

Replay showed he was shoved by Liverpool defender Matip, however, the referee waved play on to the disgust of Everton manager Frank Lampard on the touchline.
