  • Al Ahly are on course to win their third consecutive CAF Champions League and their 49th Egyptian Premier League title

Pitso Mosimane has achieved much success with Al Ahly since joining the side in 2020, but not everyone seems to think so.

The South African coach has faced his fair share of detractors during his stint at the Egyptian giants.

Former Al Ahly legend, Wael Gomaa, is the latest to share his thoughts on Pitso, believing that Al Ahly can do better without the Mosimane in charge.

As reported by Soccer Laduma, Gomaa urged the club to replace Mosimane once the Champions League campaign was over. Gomaa was speaking after Al Ahly’s draw with Raja Casablanca in the CAF Champions League, a draw which saw them qualify for the semi-finals.

"I'd like to congratulate Al Ahly for qualifying, they earned it at the first leg, but tonight, the performance was not convincing," Gomaa said.
"Mosimane's management of the game was poor. Pitso just thought about qualifying, but Al Ahly could have played better football,” he added.

Gomaa also believed that Mosimane took a chance in the game, which could have backfired, and he was lucky that the team won.

Al Ahly are currently second in the Egyptian Premier League, four points behind the leaders Zamalek. They do have three games in hand, though.

Al Ahly has won back to back CAF Champions League with Mosimane at the helm and are now chasing a third, Sports24 confirmed. Al Ahly have won the Egyptian League, the Egyptian Cup and the CAF Super Cup during his time at the club.

Al Ahly are happy with the progress of the team under Mosimane and took to Twitter to praise him for leading the team to the semi-final after the game.

Best teams in Africa named: Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns placed in the top 10

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics has released the list of the top 10 teams on the African continent as part of its global lists. To no one surprise, Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly is at the top of the pile.

As reported by KickOff, the Red Devils represented CAF at the FIFA Club World Cup in February this year, where they sealed bronze medals after defeating Saudi giants Al-Hilal 4-0 in the third-place final.

While their 213 points ensure them the No. 1 spot on the continent, they are not the only Egyptian side in the top 10, with Pyramids FC and Zamalek occupying fifth and seventh positions, respectively, Sports Brief earlier reported.
