DStv Diski Challenge Wrap: Another Twist in Title Race as Stellenbosch FC Moves to Top With Pirates Choking

There was another twist in an already tense DStv Diski Challenge title race between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch Football Club

The Maroons - the highest-scoring team in the league - moved to the top of the log after a thumping win over Chippa United. Orlando Pirates, on the other hand, collapsed against Maritzburg United to surrender top spot.

Maritzburg United 3-1 Orlando Pirates

Kamvalethu Cele was the first to find the back of the net for the Team of Choice in the 26th minute of the first half. Boitumelo Radiopane levelled the matters three minutes before half-time.

Maritzburg United cruised to a 3-1 victory in the second half, with Asanda Buthelezi making it 2-1 in the 50th minute. Phiwayinkosi Zuma ensured that the three points remained in KwaZulu-Natal when he netted the third goal and Pirates had no answer.

Stellenbosch FC 6-2 Chippa United

Stellies moved to the top of the log with 50 points and dethroned Pirates from the number one spot.

Pirates are now second on the table with 49 points after 23 games. Solly Khunyedi scored his first hattrick in the Diski Challenge this season, while the other Stellies goals came with Fuad Johnson, Antonio Van Wyk and Devin Titus.

The results saw Chippa United dropping to fourth place with 40 points. The Chilli Boys are now 10 points behind log leaders.

SuperSport United 3-1 Swallows FC

Matsatsantsa A Pitori brushed aside Dube Birds at Lucas Moripe Stadium to move to position three with 41 points.

SuperSport coach Thabo September had said that as long they are still in the title race mathematically, they will not throw in the towel, and with their recent displays, anything could still happen.

Baroka FC 1-1 Cape Town City

Baroka moved to position 11 from 12 while City dropped to the 10 th spot.

Marumo Gallants 0-1 Golden Arrows

Struggling Marumo remains at the bottom of the table with 13 points in 13 games while Arrows also keep their 14thspot with 23 matches from 23 games.

Mamelodi Sundowns 3-4 Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs made it back-to-back wins in the DStv Diski Challenge after edging Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Mduduzi Shabalala bagged a brace while Keviano Francis and Wandile Duba also found the back of the net for the Soweto giants.

Chiefs also finished the game with 10 men after Bongho Lawana was given his marching orders after the hour mark.

DStv Diski Challenge wrap: Off-form Orlando Pirates stumbles again as Stellenbosch FC fails to take advantage

Orlando Pirates' inconsistency at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge log table continued as their wobbly second half of the season unfolds.

As reported on Sports Brief, the Buccaneers were turned over by nemesis SuperSport United 2-1 at the Rand Stadium.

Fortunately for Pirates, the free-scoring Stellenbosch FC right on their heels in second place couldn't get level with them on the table.
