South African sports fans have already started planning for life back in stadiums.

Last night, President Cyril Ramaphosa made a sweeping announcement with regards to current lockdown regulations across the country. This included the increase in stadium capacity to a satisfying 50% as the State of Disaster, announced by the president in March 2020, nears its end.

The South African cricket fraternity was the first to pounce, with an announcement by SuperSport Park this morning that an extra 3 000 tickets had been made available for the One Day International between South African and Bangladesh in Centurion.

According to FARPost, the Premier Soccer League, on the other hand, said in a statement:

“The Executive Committee of the League is meeting on Monday 28 March, 2022 to consider the extent to which the League Covid 19 Regulations can or should be adapted. The existing protocols remain in place until varied by the Executive Committee.”

The response to the news was mixed as people revealed their agendas.

Lindokuhle Tamer said:

"Now that we're allowed back into the stadiums, we'll fire Baxter ourselves."

Moses Mokabane said:

"Welcome back 2 de stadiums... but we don't need 'hooligans' chasing players n coaches @ de stadiums"

Yahuah Yasharaal said:

"What a strategy. So more people will get vaccinated because of their love of soccer. Soccer is not a neccesity. People, you can live without going to watch it in stadiums."

Kabelo Kekansa said:

":I like the fact that Kaizer Chiefs fans will witness Kaizer Chiefs players giving the MIGHTY Mamelodi Sundowns guard of honour"

Zenzela Xulu said:

"I don't see any changes here. He was just forcing the mandatory vaccine. Nothing new."

Ndofaya Phakade said:

"That's what we wanted they can now chow our tax money as much as they like as long as we watch our teams playing."

Sigh of relief as stadiums are reopened in South Africa, ticket sales soar immediately

Starting this afternoon, sports venues across South Africa will increase spectator capacity to 50%.

As reported by Sports Brief, this comes as the South African government continues to ease lockdown restrictions in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

President Cyril Ramaphosa made the announcement during a live address broadcast to the nation last night.
