Mohamed Qotb Abou Gabal Ali popularly known as Gabaski arrived in Cameroon as Egypt's second choice goalkeeper but left as everyone's favourite following his heroics at the tournament.

Gabaski had to wait till the knockout stages to make an appearance after first choice goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy picked up an injury in the round of 16 clash against Ivory Coast.

The Zamalek goalkeeper became the hero for the Pharaoh's of Egypt after saving Eric Bailly's penalty to send the seven time champions to the quarter finals.

He also starred in the victory against Morocco, although he did not finish the game but it was in the semi-finals that the unsung hero will write his name in history after saving two penalties as Egypt beat Cameroon.

If Egypt had won the Africa Cup of Nations, Gabaski will be a cult hero after making a great penalty save from Liverpool's Sadio Mane in the first half to deny Senegal from taking the lead.

A video has been dropped on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief where a collection of his outstanding save were put together.

The mystery behind Gabaski's water bottle at AFCON

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal seems to have forgotten that his water bottle contained penalty information of all Senegal players as he left it on the pitch, Cover Ghana reports.

Gabaski who had a great tournament in Cameroon was handed the Man of the Match award for the final AFCON match involving Egypt and Senegal.

He had a fine performance against the hosts in the semi-final putting up brilliant saves during the penalty shootout to defeat Indomitable Lions.
