With 23 continental titles, Al Ahly is the most decorated football club in the world, with 118 trophies. It was voted the African club of the 20th century by CAF. The club secured third place on the 2021/22 FIFA club world cup after losing to Palmeiras, who also lost to Chelsea on 12 February.

Al Ahly SC stadium

Al Salam Stadium, also known as Al Ahly WE Al Salam, is the current stadium for the club. It's a multi-use arena mainly used for association football games with an all-seated capacity of 30,000. The stadium was constructed in 2009 and hosted Group B of the FIFA U-20 World Cup as well as the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

On 4 December 2019, Al Ahly revealed that they had possessed the arena from the Egyptian Ministry of Military Production for a period of 25 years with an option to return their modern proposed stadium is constructed. This resulted in the stadium's official name changing from Al Salam Stadium to Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium on 12 August 2020.

The club was founded as a sports club for students to gather themselves for exercise and leisure. It was first headed by the time British advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Alfred Mitchell-Innes, in order to smoothen financial aid for the club.

This means that the club is owned by the government. It is currently led by Mahmoud El Khatib as the chairman. Pitso Mosimane has been Al Ahly SC's coach since 2020.

Mohamed El Shenawy is the current team captain. The Egyptian, born on 22 December 1988, started his career as a youth player with the giants before leaving in 2009 to join Tala'ea El Gaish. He spent time on loan with Haras El Hodoud and later Petrojet in 2013. In July 2016, is when he returned to Al Ahly and then replaced Sherif Ekramy.

He has helped Al Ahly to win 3 consecutive Egyptian Premier League trophies in 2016–17, 2017–18, 2018–19 and 2019–20 as well as 2 consecutive CAF Champions League trophies in 2019–20 and 2020–21
