President Macky Sall Donates $87,000 Cash, Lands to Senegal Players After AFCON Victory

• Macky Sall has offered an amount of $87,100 to each player of the Senegal National Team for winning the 2021 African Cup of Nations held in Cameroon
• Aside from the cash received by each player, the President has also given out a plot of land in Dakar to the players
• Senegal overcame Mohamed Salah's Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out in Sunday's final at Cameroon

The government of Senegal, led by President Macky Sall, has rewarded each national football team member cash prizes and plots of land following their win in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties to be crowned champions of Africa for the first time in their history which triggered triumphant commemoration across the streets of Dakar on Sunday, February 6.

In view of this, the president deemed it necessary to reward the players as a way of motivating them for their sacrifice, determination and hard work throughout the tournament.

In a colourful ceremony at the presidential palace in the capital Dakar on Tuesday, February 8, each member of the playing body received an amount of $87,000. 200 square-metre plots of land in Dakar and 500 square-metre plot in the nearby city of Diamniadio.

President Sall also appointed each member of the winning squad the country's prestigious Order of the Lion, as thousands of fans cheered outside the gates.

"By your vital force and your creative genius, you have reversed the course of history," the president said.

"We dreamed of the cup, you built this dream and you made it come true," he added.

Hundreds of thousands of joyous fans also flooded the streets of the city of three million people on Monday -- which the government had declared a public holiday -- to greet the team as it returned from Cameroon.
