Christian Atsu, the Africa Cup of Nations best player in 2015, is amazed by the quality of the Senegalese team after winning the tournament in Cameroon.

The Teranga Lions defeated Egypt on penalties to win the competition for the first time in the West African country's history.

Atsu, who came close to lifting the title in 2015 with Ghana, took to social media to congratulate Senegal for their triumph.

"Too much quality in this Senegal team. Congratulations to them," wrote the Al Raed player.

The footballer missed Ghana's squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after staying away from the team since the 2019 tournament.

The 29-year-old was the star for Ghana in 2015, carrying the team all the way to the finals, only for the Black Stars to throw away a two-goal penalty lead and lose to Ivory Coast.

Christian Atsu named Most Valuable Player at AFCON 2015

Christian Atsu was adjudged the Orange Man of the Competition at the 2015 African Cup of Nations as Ghana reached the final.

The then Newcastle United star was in top form for the Black Stars, scoring two goals at the competition in Equatorial Guinea.

He also won the goal of the tournament with his strike against Guinea in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Senegal win AFCON 2021 after beating Egypt on penalties

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Senegal are the winners of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Cameroon.

The Lions of Teranga stunned Egypt 4-2 on post-match penalties to win the continental showpiece.

The thrilling match played at Olembe's Pau Biya Stadium had to be decided via the shootouts after both teams settled for a goalless draw in regulation time.
