Sports Brief understands the Kenyan international will spend the rest of the season with Waasland-Beveren after he joined them on a six-month loan deal.

The transfer was confirmed by the Belgian second-tier side who revealed Johanna had joined them as a free agent.

"Waasland-Beveren welcomes Eric Johana Omondi. The Kenyan international can be played as an attacking midfielder or as a striker," Waasland-Beveren said on their official website.
"He was out of contract and comes transfer-free from the Swedish Jonkoping. The club has signed the Kenyan for six months," the club added.

The 27-year-old made his debut in Europe with Swedish side Vasalund four years ago before later moving to Brommapojkarna in 2020.

However, his stint at Brommapojkarna was short-lived as he moved to Jonkoping, another Swedish club, months later.

He has a successful spell with Jonkoping as he scored 14 goals and set up three others in 55 appearances.

The ex-Mathare United star will now be hoping to help Waasland-Beveren earn promotion to the Belgian topflight.

Waasland-Beveren currently sit second on the table with 27 points, 10 behind leaders Westerlo.

Veteran Harambee Stars fan dies

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Kenya's sporting fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the death of veteran Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards fan, Isaac Juma.

Isaac Juma was an ardent football fan who passionately supported Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards.

He made headlines with his unique style during matches as he painted his body in national colours and a trunk.

The 56-year-old is said to have died after he was hacked to death by unknown assailants over a land dispute.
