Chad's national football team history

Les Sao mostly participated in African friendly matches and minor cups. Their first-ever game was in L'Amitie Tournament against Liberia in Senegal in 1963. The result was a 2-1 defeat to Liberia. They did not qualify for either Continental competitions or World cup campaigns until the early 1990s.

Afcon Campaign

Les Sao has lost in most of their African Cup of Nations qualifiers games, thus disqualifying them to participate. As a result, the team has never qualified in the World Cup and AFCON.

Withdrawal from the African Cup of Nations campaign

This announcement came up, nullifying the results of their previous games in the group stage against Egypt, Tanzania and Nigeria. In March 2016, Les Sao withdrew from African Cup of Nations qualifications following the announcement. They were subsequently banned from participating in official games for over three years until September 2019.

"Accordingly, following the decision of Caf Executive Committee dated January 15 2015, any group reduced to three teams following the withdrawal of a team will have only the group winner qualifying for the final tournament".

FIFA ban lifted

Unfortunately FIFA banned Les Sao indefinitely from participating in any global tournament. The ban resulted from the country's government interference in running the Les Sao by dissolving the Chadian Football Federation.

The suspension was lifted before the following FIFA congress announcement that is set to take place in May 2022.

“Chad have been readmitted to international football after FIFA on Tuesday ended a suspension that had lasted six months. Following the lifting of the suspension, a joint Fifa-Caf mission will be deployed to N’Djamena without delay to follow up on discussions with the Federation and the Chadian government,” said FIFA.
