The Blues proved too strong for Spurs during the Wednesday, January 5, semi-final clash as they took the lead inside five minutes of action after Kai Havertz darted in behind.

Tuchel's men doubled the advantage after 34 minutes when Japhet Tanganga headed a clearance against Ben Davies into the back of the net.

While Chelsea had tons of chances to put the game to bed in the second half, Spurs were largely quiet as they were less threatening.

Speaking after the clash, Tuchel hailed the performance of four of his charges, including Saul Niguez who he noted had made a "huge step up."

Saul has endured a difficult start at Stamford Bridge since joining the west Londoners from Atletico Madrid in the summer.

However, his superb display against Tottenham did not escape the eye of Tuchel who expressed his delight with what he saw from the Spaniard.

"Yeah, he is. He is more happy, he is more free in training, I see it every day," Tuchel said when asked if Saul is now finally settling into life at Chelsea.

The Chelsea boss further singled out Jorginho, Malang, and Hakim Ziyech for praise, noting that they were outstanding in the victory.

"Yeah Saul, Jorgi as well, but especially Saul, Malang, and Hakim today were, for me, outstanding because they didn’t play a lot in the last games," the German tactician added.

Chelsea's 2-0 win mean they have one foot in the final of the Carabao Cup, but will have to get the job done during the second leg to be guaranteed that place.

Chelsea stun Spurs

Earlier, Sports Brief reported a Carabao Cup clash between Chelsea and Tottenham ended in a 2-0 win for the Stamford Bridge side as they moved closer to the final.

Romelu Lukaku returned to the squad after being dropped for his controversial interview while Jorginho and Saul manned the midfield.

A 5th-minute strike by Kai Havertz following a deflected effort from close range as well as Ben Davies’ own goal sealed the win for the hosts.
