Antonio scored 209 goals in 445 Serie A matches from 2002 to 2016, while playing for Empoli and Udinese. He averaged 0.49 goals per match. The legendary striker scored 49 times in 158 matches for Empoli (1996-2004) and 185 in 350 games for Udinese (2004-2016).

Jose is a retired Italian-Brazilian footballer who held the record for most goals in a single European Cup before Lionel Messi broke it. Altafini scored 216 times in 459 league games between 1958-1976 and averaged 0.47 goals per Serie A match. He played for AC Milan, Napoli, and Juventus. Interestingly, The former forward played for Brazil and the Italian national football teams in his international career.

4. Giuseppe Meazza

Giuseppe 'Peppino' Meazza, nicknamed il Balilla, led Italy to two FIFA World Cup titles (1934 and 1938) and won the Golden Ball in 1934. Nordahl scored 225 goals in 291 league appearances for AC Milan and Roma. He has an average of 0.77 goals per league game. Internationally, he bagged 43 goals in 33 matches for the Swedish national team between 1942 and 1948.

Legendary Italian forward Silvio Piola holds the record of the best scorer in the league, with 274 goals in 537 Italian Serie A games. The record has stood for over six decades and is likely to stand for more years.

Piola is widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of his generation. He averaged 0.51 goals per match in the league while playing for Pro Vercelli, Lazio, Juventus, and Novara. The legendary goal poacher managed 143 goals in 227 matches for Lazio (1934-1943), and 26 goals in 57 matches for Juventus (1945-1947). He also scored 30 times in 34 matches for the Italian football team between 1935 and 1952.

All-time top scorer in Serie A in a season

Ciro Immobile, Gonzalo Higuain, and Gino Rossetti are the leading top scorers in Serie A by season with 36 goals. Rossetti was the first to score 36 times in a league season while playing for Torino during the 1928-29 campaign. Former Argentine forward Higuain equalled the record in the 2015-16 season with Napoli. Italian star Immobile also managed to score 36 times during the 2019-20 season with Lazio.
