The son of a grocery clerk paved a way to becoming a world champion, all thanks to natural talent. Showing no interest in track and field at an early age, the coach is given all credit for Bolt's move to athletics. Now a phenomenon that others look upon, and despite retirement, Usain still inspires most athletes.

The Jamaican international sprinter was born and raised in Sherwood Content, Jamaica, on 21 August 1986 to Wellesley and Jennifer Bolt. He grew up with his sister Sherine and brother Sadiki. His parents owned a grocery in the rural areas while he played cricket and soccer with his brother in the streets.

He began participating in track and field competitions in high school when his cricket coach noticed his fantastic speed and encouraged him to focus his energy on improving his athletic capabilities. Pablo McNeil, a former Olympic sprint athlete, became his primary coach, forming a positive partnership.

Winning multiple awards before his professional debut, Bolt's first international appearance was at the 2001 IAAF World Youth Championships in Debrecen. He participated in the 200m event, and, despite his failure to qualify for the finals, he still set a new personal best of 21.73 seconds.

In 2002, Bolt was 15 years of age and had already grown 6 feet 5 inches tall. During this period, the 2002 World Junior Championships were held in his home in Kingston, Jamaica. This was his chance to prove his abilities in yet another significant international competition. He won the 200m gold medal in 20.61 seconds, making him the youngest world-junior gold medalist.

He went on to win other championships in 2003 and held the gold medals in the 200m World Youth and Junior Championships. He missed the Senior World Championships because he was too young and inexperienced but won the IAAF Rising Star Award on the strength of his junior record-equalling run.

In 2004, Bolt turned professional under the new coach, Fitz Coleman. This stage of his career hit off with the CARIFTA Games in Bermuda, where he took the world junior record outright with a time of 19.93 seconds. However, the year was unsuccessful, and injuries prevented him from completing an entire professional athletics season.

He became the youngest person to compete in a 200m world final at eighteen, and he reached the world's top five rankings in 2005 and 2006. In 2007, he did not win any gold medals in major tournaments but improved his technique, balance and stride frequency, giving him more driving power on the track.

In 2008, Bolt set a new world record when he became the first athlete after America's Carl Lewis to win the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 x 100 metre-relay in a single Olympics and the first ever to set world records in all three events.

The 2009 World Berlin Championship saw Bolt proving again that he is the fastest man alive. He engraved himself further into history by breaking the world record with a staggering time of 9.58 seconds, a record no one has broken since then.

Then, he led the way for Jamaica's 4 x 100 metre-relay squad and broke the record, clocking 37.58 seconds. He finished his last ever individual race at the 2016 Olympic games, winning gold in the 200m race in 19.78 seconds.

The last competition for the Jamaican sprinter came in the 2017 IAAF World Championship, when he finished third after Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman. He retired in 2017.
