Professional skateboarding & early business ventures

The retired skateboarder started professional skateboarding at 11 and started competing at 12. Gordon and Smith Skateboard Company (G&S) sponsored his career.

At 16, he forewent his senior year at Kettering Fairmont High School and relocated to Southern California to continue his professional skate career. He officially turned pro in 1991.

Alien Workshop began sponsoring the skateboarder when he went pro and started producing signature Dyrdek skateboards soon after the endorsement.

At 17, he founded his own skateboard accessory company called Orion Trucks. At 21, he was competing internationally, and Droors Clothing, now known as DC Shoes, started sponsoring him. During his 20-year-long partnership with the company, he released 29 signature shoes.
