During the NHL 2012-2013 lockout season, O'Reilly played for the Russian Kontinental Hockey League, Metallurgy Magnitogorsk. Upon his return to NHL, Ryan O'Reilly signed a two-year contract with the Avalanche and received the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 2014.

Unfortunately, this was due to an ankle injury sustained during his 12 games with Metallurg. On 1st July 2018, the ice hockey star helped the St. Louis Blues qualify for the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs and consequently became the first player since Wayne Gretzky in 1985, to score in four straight Stanley Cup finals games.

He took home the Conn Smythe Trophy after setting a team record with 23 playoff points.
