The athlete was born in Halifax and grew up nearby Cole Harbour with his younger sister, Taylor. His father played the Verdun Junior Canadiens goaltender in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Sid was a straight-A student who played hockey through his teenage years, earning multiple awards, attracting media attention, and even giving his first newspaper interview at only seven.

Junior career

In his junior career, he led every team he went to into the finals in different competitions, leading the league in goals and pulling off wonderful stats. However, the journey was hostile as he was so good that opponents despised him.

This became a push for the star to reach greater heights and continued dominating the league, breaking records, including a 28-game undefeated streak, with the Oceanic recording 45 wins and 98 points, the best record in the league.

During his three years in the QMJHL, he won scoring titles, MVP awards, and championships. He then attended the NHL prospect combine in preparation for the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Rimouski Oceanic retired jersey no. 87 in Crosby's honour in 2019, and the QMJHL also retired the number.

Pittsburgh Penguins (2005-2022)

He was first listed in the NHL Central Scouting Bureau and International Scouting Services' respective rankings of prospects. He also won the Mike Bossy Trophy as the QMJHL's best prospect. As expected, he was selected first overall in the draft by Pittsburgh Penguins on 30 July 2005, but unfortunately, a labour lockout suspended the 2004-05 NHL season.

Therefore, the 2005 draft was positioned via a weighted lottery based on each team's playoff appearances and draft lottery victories in the last four years. This lottery pick-out made the draft popularly referred to as the 'Sidney Crosby Lottery' or the 'Sidney Crosby's Sweepstakes'. He made his debut for the Penguins later that year on 5 October alongside Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux.

Michel Therrien took over as the team's manager on 15 December 2015 and immediately designated Sidney as the team's captain. He established franchise records in points (102) and assists (63) for a rookie. He became the only rookie in NHL history to score 100 points in a season and the seventh to hit the benchmark. Overall, he finished sixth in the scoring race and seventh in assists.

Sidney's career in the team from 2005-2022 has been a success and one of the best in sports history. He has garnered multiple awards, has given his all in the game, and built a legacy that others would call 'unattainable'.
