Andre Onana's football career

The 26-year-old began his early career at Samuel Eto'o's academy. He spent around three years at the academy before moving to Barca's La Masia academy at 13. He rose through the ranks while playing for Barca's under-16, under-18, and under-19 sides.

Andre failed to make a breakthrough into the senior team that had Marc-André ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo. So instead, he moved to Ajax, where he proved his doubters wrong.

Ajax (2015 - 2022)

Onana opened a new chapter in his remarkable football trajectory by signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with Ajax. He joined the club's reserve team and played for a year before climbing the ladder to the first team in 2016.

His outstanding skills include agility, swiftness, and the ability to use his legs. At Ajax, he won numerous titles and accolades and kept dozens of clean sheets. The 26-year-old was also nominated for the best goalkeeper award at the 2019 Ballon D'Or ceremony but lost to Liverpool's Allison Becker.

Andre tested positive for furosemide on 30 October 2020. The substance is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). However, in his defence, the Cameroonian admitted to having taken a Lasimac tablet prescribed to his wife by mistake after feeling unwell.

Return to action

Andre served his ban and returned to action in Ajax's Champions League match against Besiktas in November 2021. He, however, turned down a contract extension with Ajax and only played ten games in the 2021-22 season.
