Thomas Partey's biography

He was raised in Krobo Odumase and played for the local team Odometah. He joined Atlético Madrid in 2012 following a brief stint with Leganés and was later demoted to the reserves a year later. However in 2013, he was promoted to the first team for the game against Real Sociedad.

Thomas was loaned to Mallorca, who had just been demoted to the second tier, on 12th July. He made his professional debut on 18th August, in a 0–4 away loss against Sabadell. He scored his team's second goal in a 2–2 draw against Hercules.

He joined La Liga side Almera on loan back in 2014. He made his competition debut, starting in a 1–1 home tie against Espanyol. In early 2015, he netted his first goals in the top tier of Spanish football, scoring a brace in a 3–0 home victory over Granada.

Partey's contract with Atlético Madrid was extended until 2022 on 14 February 2017. On October 31, he scored his first European goal with a long-range strike to level the score in a 1–1 Champions League group match against Qaraba; he became Atlético's first African to score in the competition.

On 1st March 2018, he was awarded another contract extension until 2023 due to his outstanding performances for the club. On 16th May, he was a part of his side's 3–0 victory over Marseille in the 2018 UEFA Europa League Final.

On 1st September 2019, Partey came on as a late replacement and scored the game-winning goal in the final minute as Atlético recovered from a 2–0 deficit to defeat Eibar 3–2.

He made his 100th La Liga appearance for Los Rojiblancos four weeks later when he was named man of the match in a 0–0 draw against Real Madrid in the Madrid derby.

Arsenal announced the signing of Partey to a long-term contract on 15th October 2020, after Atlético Madrid activated his $58.8 million release clause. He was handed the number 18 shirt that Nacho Monreal had relinquished the previous season.

Partey claimed his intention to help Arsenal "return to their rightful place" upon signing, crediting his choice to go to "[wanting] to encounter new challenges" while also praising manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu.

Thomas Partey's injury

He was withdrawn from the match at Selhurst Park due to a thigh injury, the severity of which is unknown. He has yet to receive the findings of a scan.
