In December 2018, the Nigerian midfielder tied the knot with the love of his wife, Ebhota Bethel, in a traditional wedding in Warri, Delta State. The private ceremony was attended by Etebo's immediate family members and friends from Bethel's family.

The Warri-native is often compared to Frank Lampard and Michael Essien because of their similar attacking styles and goalscoring abilities. His football journey began at the Lord Honour FC academy in Warri, Delta State.

Warri Wolves (Nigeria)

Etebo later joined Warri Wolves' junior team in 2012. He made his senior debut for the team in the Nigeria Professional Football League team on 14 April 2013. In his debut season, he scored the fastest hat trick in the league within 25 minutes against the Wikki Tourists. Despite being a midfielder, Oghenekaro finished the season with 17 goals, the second-best tally by a debutant after Ahmed Musa.

His excellent debut season attracted many clubs, but he ended up staying with the Wolves. He won the Delta State FA Cup with the team in 2015 and CAF's most promising talent of the year award in 2015.

CD Feirense (Portugal)

Etebo signed with the Portuguese side in 2016 and made his debut against Oliveirense in April 2016. He scored his first goal for the team against Academia Viseu.

La Palmas (Spain)

On 31 January 2018, the player completed his loan move to La Liga side La Palmas. He spent six months in Spain before switching to England.

Stoke City (England)

The Nigerian joined Stoke City in June 2018 after penning a five-year deal worth about $7.2 million. He helped Stoke avoid relegation from the EFL Championship after finishing 16th in the league.

Oghenekaro was sent on loan to Getafe in January 2020 for six months before moving to Galatasaray on a season-long deal. He also spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Watford before returning to Stoke.

Etebo won the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in 2015 with Nigeria and finished as the tournament's top scorer with five goals. He earned his senior team debut on 27 July 2013 and helped the Super Eagles qualify for the 2016 Olympics. The midfielder scored four goals against Japan in the opening round and helped the team win the bronze medal.
