Loadshedding is just not a South African concern, it appears.

The power shortage cloud is hanging over hosts India and visitors South Africa's first T20 international on Wednesday night at the Green Field Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The match is the first of three as both teams prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup next month in Australia.

As reported by IOL, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) disconnected the power of Green Field Stadium after Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) failed to pay its outstanding electricity bill.

As a result, the KCA has since transferred Rs 50,000 (almost R11 000) as a token payment to KSEB and promised to pay the entire bill as soon as they can after the match. They have also set up a backup plan with the use of generators.

The Proteas have toured the subcontinent nation, playing in five T20I matches in June. On that occasion, the series ended in a 2-2 draw, with the deciding match being washed out. South Africa defeated India 3-0 at home in a One Day International series that took place in January and February.

Shocked and unsurprised reactions to Proteas ODI and T20 captain Temba Bavuma remaining unsold in SA20 auction

South Africa's limited overs cricket captain Temba Bavuma remains unsold in the inaugural SA20 auction.

The event is currently taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Bavuma is a divisive figure locally and internationally regarding his batting ability, which has led to strong opinions on social media.

@Mid_On_ said:

"Temba Bavuma, SA's T20 captain is unsold in their premier T20 competition SA20. It tells a lot about their quota system in the national setup. But I do wish Temba gets sold in the next round. Else it would be embarrassing for the national captain."
