The Novak Djokovic vs Australia saga is far from over and the world number one could soon be deported before the start of the Australian Open.

Djokovic was detained in a Melbourne hotel as he awaited deportation before a judge overturned the decision and released the star.

But despite being cleared and allowed to play in the upcoming Australian Open, Djokovic could yet be deported as he admitted that there were 'errors' with his paperwork before he arrived in Australia.

Sport24 reported that Djokovic admitted that there was an error on his Australian travel declaration, where he accidentally stated that he would not be flying for 14 days before jetting off to Melbourne. Djokovic claims that his agent was responsible for the paperwork error.

EWN also reported that Djokovic attended events and had an interview with a journalist despite being positive wh Covid19. Djokovic claimed that he only received the positive test back after attending the events but did attend the interview when he knew he was positive.

"I felt obliged to go ahead and conduct the L'Equipe interview as I didn't want to let the journalist down, but did ensure I socially distanced and wore a mask except when my photograph was being taken," he said.

The latest admissions haven't gone down well though with social media having its say on the continuing saga.

Tennis player #Novak_Djokovic admits he shouldn’t have done press interview, maskless when he had @covid19. And admits to errors (lies) on his immigration form. Just deport him"

@iamamaltese:

"Go Australia! Tell this spoiled little brat who "did his own research" and went maskless while having COVID that he's not welcome in a safe, sane and healthy country. Antivaxxers should be welcome nowhere. #Novak_Djokovic"

@BraaiKing_Bad:

"Am I the only person finding it a challenge to show #Novak_Djokovic any sympathy right now?"

Nick Kyrgios contracts Covid19 before Australian Open, Twitter finds the funny side of player's situation

In other Australian Open related news, Nick Kyrgios could be set to miss his home tennis tournament the Australian Open after the star tested positive for Covid19, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Kyrgios was forced to pull out of the Sydney Tennis Classic and his participation in the Open remains a doubt. The Australian player's best finish at the Open came in 2015 when he made the quarter-finals.

Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic are bitter rivals but that didn't stop the Australian from defending Djokovic during his recent deportation. Kyrgios said he was 'embarrassed' by his country's treatment of the world number one, ESPN reported. A year earlier, Kyrgios had been criticising the world number one for his views on the Covid19 pandemic.
