Nigerian comedian Carter Efe delivered a composed performance on his boxing debut to defeat street-pop artist Habeeb Olalomi Badmus, popularly known as Portable, at the ‘Chaos in the Ring 4’ event held in Lagos on 2 May 2026. The bout was streamed globally via DAZN, bringing significant international visibility to the celebrity crossover contest.
All three judges scored the three-round contest 30-27 in favour of Carter Efe, who controlled the fight with clean, calculated strikes throughout. Portable, who entered the ring with considerable bravado and an energetic public persona, was unable to match his opponent’s technical approach or reach. He appeared visibly fatigued from an early stage and repeatedly threw wild punches that failed to land with any meaningful impact.
The financial stakes were considerable. Carter Efe reportedly earned a ₦50 million prize, funded by businessman Emeka Okonkwo, widely known as E-Money, along with additional perks attached to the victory. Portable is also believed to have received a significant appearance fee for taking part in the event, according to reports.
The aftermath of the bout played out loudly on social media, where Portable faced swift and widespread ridicule. A central theme in fan reactions was the dismissal of any supposed reliance on ‘juju’ — a term referring to spiritual or supernatural power — with users arguing that no such advantage could substitute for physical conditioning and boxing technique inside the ring. Music video director TG Omori was among those who commented on the performance, writing: “Babalawo do juju for punch but e no do for stamina. This are the issues.” Popular commentator VeryDarkMan posted: “It looks like this JuJu didn’t work! Portable Zazoo dey chop blow. Him eye don swell up. The native doctor chop Portable for nothing.” One user, posting under the handle @kingdaviddgreat, wrote: “You can’t play boxing see in that ring no juju can fight for you lol see all that noice and after round one portable was gassed lol he thinks it’s a street fight.”
For Carter Efe, the victory represents a notable crossover achievement. Making his boxing debut against a high-profile and outspoken opponent, the comedian maintained discipline across all three rounds and earned a clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards. The result positions him as a credible participant in the growing Nigerian celebrity boxing scene, which has drawn increasing public and commercial interest in recent years.
Portable, who has built a large following through his music and confrontational public image, had generated significant pre-fight attention. However, his performance in the ring drew sharp contrast with his pre-bout confidence, leaving him on the receiving end of pointed commentary from fans and public figures alike. The ‘Chaos in the Ring’ series has previously featured other Nigerian entertainers and continues to attract mainstream attention as celebrity boxing events grow in popularity across Africa.
