Tim Tszyu recorded one of the biggest wins of his career, knocking out Carlos Ocampo in the first round to retain his interim world title belt.
Tszyu needed just 72 seconds to successfully defend his WBO interim super welterweight title.
He preserved his unbeaten record with the victory, with the Australian now sporting a 23-0 slate.
Tszyu destroys Ocampo quickly
Tszyu’s 17th career knockout win was a sight to behold. He dominated right from the get-go, needing just 14 shots to obliterate Ocampo, per WWOS.
The referee decided to end the fight after Ocampo was knocked down a second time.
The Mexican’s head was sent crashing against the ropes, leaving the official no other choice but to wave things off.
Ocampo was totally outclassed in this fight as he failed to land a single punch in this contest.
Tszyu vs. Charlo next?
That was a complete surprise as many expected Ocampo to be a tough opponent for Tszyu.
He had only been stopped once before in his professional career, losing via knockout to undefeated Errol Spence Jr. in the first round back in 2018.
It was a statement win for Tszyu, who took a huge risk by accepting this bout. He was supposed to fight division champ Jermell Charlo, but their title unification fight was delayed because of the American’s hand injury.
Tszyu made sure that fight won’t be put in jeopardy, sending Ocampo to the canvas in just 59 seconds with a stunning overhand right.
The Mexican managed to get up, but he met his end just 13 seconds later when Tszyu’s sickening left hook knocked him down for good, per news.com.au.
