  • Gervonta Davis stopped Ryan Garcia in round 7 in Las Vegas on Saturday
  • Now after fighting at a catchweight, Davis has a few lucrative options at lightweight
  • Sports Brief provides the best options for the undefeated American boxer

The fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis has undoubtedly awakened the boxing community and, hopefully, the promoters.

The two boxers were both media-hungry; therefore, it was unexpected that the youthful and brisk "King Ryan" chose to fight one of the most deadly opponents he would probably ever encounter.

Garcia's boldness has been praised, but it eventually proved that he was still a touch too inexperienced to compete against one of the top fighters in the world on a pound-for-pound basis.

Tank Davis handles brash rival Garcia in seven rounds atop a Showtime pay-per-view production from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night and set himself up against high-profile opponents.

And Sports Brief has compiled a list of opponents who are next to fight Tank Davis.

Teofimo Lopez

Teofimo Lopez was once at the top of everyone's list of would-be boxers.

He was an unbeaten prospect with charisma and striking power who became a champion in October 2020 when he decisively defeated lightweight world champion Vasyl Lomachenko.

But Lopez lost, unable to capitalize on that surge via a string of lucrative title defences.

After losing to George Kambosos Jr. a year later, he was dumped, humiliated, and stripped of his collection of title belts. He has spent most of the time since then speculating that conspiracies were to blame for the upset.

Nevertheless, he and Davis have a past. Before Lopez lost his 0, a battle between the two had been regularly discussed, and they had sparred as adolescents. Consequently, it is not particularly significant.

Vasyl Lomachenko

Lomachenko, who is now 35, is still regarded as one of the best at 135 pounds after rebounding from his loss to Teofimo Lopez with two good wins. The Ukranian will face Devin Haney on May 20 at the MGM in Las Vegas in another notable fight.

Whoever wins will not be able to hide from the uncrowned king of the division in Tank Davis, who, if he does not star in many more scandals, has it in his hand to become the new Pay-Per-View king in the United States of America.

In addition to the fact that both fighters are well-known, there are numerous other exciting factors about this battle.

Davis' unrefined aggression and forcefulness versus Lomachenko's exquisite agility and footwork. The arrogant youth versus the revered veteran. One man seeking to end his career against another in his prime.

Devin Haney

Devin Haney has some business to handle on May 20 at the MGM in Las Vegas against Vasyl Lomachenko for the undisputed lightweight championship.

But if Haney manages to maintain all that hardware—and he's favourite to do so—the prospect of a fight with him becomes much more complicated for Davis to ignore.

He could allow Davis to elevate beyond his cheesy title to a legitimate undisputed championship. And the heat between them after Davis' fight with Ryan Garcia indicates that it's already a top-of-mind proposition for Saturday's winner.

“I’m not worrying about [Haney],” Davis said during his post-fight press conference at T-Mobile Arena via Boxing Scene. “He needs to focus on May 20th. We’ll holla at him after. I don’t want to speak about him. This is my moment.”

Shakur Stevenson

It will be enormous if Stevenson and Davis continue their unbeaten and belt-collecting paths.

With his victory over Romero, Davis improved to 27-0 with 25 knockouts, solidifying his place among the sport's rising elite.

Shakur Stevenson is also present with crowns at 126 and 130 pounds and particularly recent victories against incumbent champions Jamel Herring and Oscar Valdez.

Davis ought to be on the latter man's list of potential opponents if he decides to continue his weight-lifting journey in search of the lightweight championship.

And it would offer a comparable contrast in approaches to the contests between Lomachenko and Haney, pitting the athletic boxer against the firm and vicious aggressor.
