Canelo is the IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO and The Ring Super Middleweight champion, while Benavidez is the interim WBC Super Middleweight champion.

Following his title defence against Caleb Plant, Benavidez called out Canelo, challenging him to a bout in September, Bleacher Report noted.

"I have a lot of respect for Canelo Alvarez, but he has to give me that shot now. That's what everybody wants to see in September," he said.

The Mexican Monster added that he didn't believe Canelo was dodging a fight against him but just had a lot of options.

Mayweather weighs in on Canelo

While Benavidez doesn't believe Canelo is dodging a fight with him, Floyd Mayweather has a different opinion.

As reported by Marca, Money Mayweather previously accused his former rival of ducking a fight with the undefeated Mexican.

"If it was up to me, we want to see Benavidez. Canelo's a hell of a fighter, but in my personal opinion, he's ducking Benavidez. This is my personal opinion, and I'm allowed to speak my mind," he said.

Canelo's next fight

While Benavidez is eager to take on Canelo in September, he may have to wait longer for his title shot. Alvarez is scheduled to fight in May in his hometown of Jalisco, Mexico, as he defends against John Ryder.

Ryder is the WBO Interim Super Middleweight champion and one of Alvarez's mandatory challengers.

Canelo is then looking to take on Dmitry Bivol again, as he aims to become a World Champion in another division, CBS Sports noted.

Bivol is the WBA Super World Light Heavyweight champion. The duo fought in May 2022, with Bivol winning the fight by unanimous decision.

David Benavidez defeats Caleb Plant

David Benavidez is still undefeated after 27 fights in his professional career.

The Mexican Monster retained his WBA Interim Super Middleweight title as he beat Caleb Plant by unanimous decision, Sports Brief reported.

There was no love lost between Benavidez and Plant and the two middleweights settled their differences in a 12-round action-packed bout in Las Vegas.
