Nigerian boxer Taiwo Esepo Agbaje wins World Boxing Federation title

Nigerian boxing sensation Taiwo ‘Esepor’ Agbaje on Monday, December 26, became the World Boxing Federation Intercontinental featherweight title holder at GOtv Boxing Night 27.

Esepor, as he is fondly called, defeated Richard Taruc Pumicpic of the Philippines by a technical knockout in the seventh round to emerge champion.

It was a tightly contested fight, with Pumicpic showing impressive skills before he was overpowered in the seventh round of the bout.

Esepo also claimed the prestigious Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy for the fourth time, an award presented to the best boxer of the night, along with the cash prize of N1.5m attached to it.

The Boxing Day event was held at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, as it featured five other bouts.

Adeyemi “Spirit” Adekanla, who is the National super lightweight champion, defeated Bartholomew Abuchi by unanimous decision to retain his belt.

Sikiru “Omo Iya Eleja” Shogbesan defeated the reigning Sodiq Oyakojo’s to become the new national super featherweight champion.

Opeyemi “Golden Boy” Ibrahim and Sodiq “Happy Boy” Adeleke ended in Adeleke’s favour also by unanimous decision, while Michael Adesodun knocked out Idris Aloma in the fourth round of their national super featherweight bout.

In the national middleweight female match, Abosede Akinsanya gave debutant Sofiat Lateef a night to forget by ending her debut with a second round technical knockout.

Young boxer discovered in Lagos

Sports Brief earlier reported that a brilliant chap was spotted in a clip exhibiting sensational boxing skills as a handful of the crowd watched with amazement.

In the footage, which has since gone viral on the internet, the young boy was seen throwing jabs and punches to the delight of onlookers.

The yet-to-be-identified talent showed class as he perfectly blocked some attempts and then went on the counter to hit the elderly 'opponent', and this is not the first time that a young Nigerian has exhibited incredible boxing skills.
