Professional boxers get into the ring knowing that they’re going to get hit, but no one expects to be bitten.

Roamer Alexis Angulo certainly didn’t expect it when he took on North American Boxing Organization (NABO) Super Middleweight champion Edgar Berlanga at Madison Square Garden.

The moment, which was caught on television cameras, was eerily similar to Mike Tyson’s fight against Evander Holyfield in 1997. Tyson was disqualified for biting a piece of Holyfield's ear off and lost his boxing license It was later reinstated.

While Berlanga didn’t bite Angulo’s ear, he did joke about it afterwards, Daily Mail reported.

“He was throwing elbows. I was about to do a Mike Tyson on him. He kept throwing his elbows, and I didn't want to get cut,” Berlanga said.

The referee never saw the incident and Berlanga did not receive a penalty.

Berland won eventually won the fight via unanimous decision but many felt that he should have been punished.

Berlanga has since apologised for his comment regarding Mike Tyson’s bite, saying that he was caught up in the moment.

The legendary boxer beat the man up before the flight took off, and the incident was caught on camera, USA Today reported.
