Bookies Give Betting Odds on a Will Smith vs Chris Rock Celebrity Boxing Fight as World Reacts to Oscars Slap

  • Betting company DraftKings Sportsbook has released odds for a theoretical boxing match between Will Smith and Chris Rock
  • This comes as Smith appeared to slap the taste out of Rock's mouth during this morning's Academy Awards ceremony
  • The slap heard around the world has drawn a raucous reaction worldwide, with many interested in how a fight between the two would play out

Will Smith's slap of Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards continues to reverberate around the world, and the sports community has joined in on the furore.

In case you missed it, Smith hit Rock with an open hand after the comedian made a joke in poor taste about Smith's wife Jada Pinkett's alopecia, a hair-loss condition. After stepping up on the stage and confronting Rock, Smith returned to his front-row seat, before firing a foul-mouthed rant at an unsettled Rock.

For good measure of the night's crazy turn of events, Smith went on to win the Best Actor Award for his role as Richard Williams, father of Venus and Serena Williams, in the movie 'King Richard'.

The unprecedented moment sent the internet into a tailspin. Naturally, Smith's role as Muhammad Ali in the 2001 biopic 'Ali', for which he bulked up while also training intensively in the art of boxing, started an intriguing debate.

Betting company DraftKings Sportsbook, like most such companies, pounced on the publicity of the incident. They listed Smith as a -450 favourite, while Rock is a huge +340 underdog should the two men duke it out in a celebrity boxing match.

The tale of the tape is telling. The 53-year-old Smith stands at 1.88m (6ft. 2in.) and weighing in at 82 kilograms (180lbs) according to Healthy Celeb, with 57-year-old Rock coming in at 1.78m (5ft. 8in.), weighing 76kg (168lbs).

South African heavyweight Kevin Lerena wins vacant World Boxing Association Intercontinental title

Kevin Lerena gave South African boxing the boost it desperately needed with a fourth-round stoppage of Romanian Bogdan Dinu at Emperor's Palace.

This saw Lerena clinch the vacant WBA Intercontinental heavyweight championship, becoming the first South African heavyweight title winner since the late Corrie Sanders defeated Wladimir Klitschko for the WBO heavyweight belt in 2003.

As reported by Sports Brief, after a quiet first three rounds, Lerena suddenly overwhelmed Dinu with a flurry of a well-coordinated combination of punches to floor the visitor.
