Some would say it's the Nigerian flavour in him but whatever it truly is, Nigerian-born Bahrain runner, Abbas Abubakar Abbas has made himself and nation proud following his win at the seventh Military World Games, which held in Wuhan, China.
It was reported that the 400 meters athlete bagged a gold medal with a time of 45.84 seconds. Right before that, he had sealed his name on the pages of history, given that he began his career at age 16.
At age 18, he won the silver medal in the 400 metres at the 2014 Asian Games. He had a personal best of 45.17 seconds for the event. Now, 23, the athlete has shown great prospects in both 200 meters and 400 meters races and is looking to gradually make even more marks as he progresses in his career.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s top athlete, Brigid Kosgei, a holder of several records, has a very inspiring story that would stir anyone into action at any time.
Despite being a school dropout and mother of twins, the athlete did not allow those things to stop her as she said that her humble beginnings have always pushed her to achieve greater things, BBC News reports.
Her coach, Eric Kimaiyo, said that her dedication, discipline, and competitive spirit has been a driving force for her.
