Jubilation As Head of Nigerian Police IRT Team Tunji Disu Wins Silver at US Judo Championships

The deputy commissioner of police and head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Tunji Disu, has won a silver medal at the 2022 US Open judo championships.

It was gathered that the police boss participated in the minus 100kg category of the veteran division and made a podium finish on Sunday.

The Cable reports that the US Judo competition saw more than five hundred veteran champions from across the world.

Disu became interested in Judo in 1986, and in 1990, he clinched two gold medals at the national sports festival in Bauchi.

He also won two gold medals at the Nigerian police games and a silver medal at the armed forces games.

Last November, Disu won a gold medal at the first veteran championships organised by the Nigerian police.

He is the chairman of the police judo association and was the chairman of the Lagos state judo association.

The police super cop is also a member of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations and Chattered Institute of Personnel management.

Folashade Rafiatu Lawal wins gold at Commonwealth Games

Meanwhile, Team Nigeria has now won two gold medals at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games as Folashade Rafiatu Lawal sets a new record on Sunday.

The 25-year-old won the medal in the women’s 59kg weightlifting event after lifting a total of 206kg to set a Commonwealth record for accumulated lifts.

It was also a Commonwealth record in her category as she lifted a staggering 90kg for her first lift.

South Africa wins gold in swimming pool event

Sports Brief earlier reported that Team South Africa has its first medals of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in South Africa. SA’s Lara Van Niekerk and Pieter Coetzé grabbed the swimming pool gold to get the country onto the medal board.

Van Niekerk won her gold by breaking the 50-metre Commonwealth record in the breaststroke for the third time, eNCA reported.

She set a time of 29.73 seconds as she beat England's Imogen Louise Clark to take first place.
