Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State was agog on Monday, July 25, following Tobi Amusan’s feat at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, United States.

Footage shows some students of Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu-Ode, the moment they sang in celebration of Tobi Amusan on her 100m Hurdle world record win.

Amusan’s emotions got the better of her when the Nigerian national anthem was played after she was presented with gold at the championships.

BBC Sport reports that she broke the Women’s 100m hurdles world record with a stunning semi-final time of 12.12 seconds - before taking gold at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

In a viral video, students of her alma mater sang the national anthem while holding her picture.

A painting of the 25-year-old sprinter was displayed by the excited students as they screamed and jumped in excitement.

A fan wrote:

“God is the greatest she worth to be celebrated.”

Another added:

“Things we love to see.”

One said:

“I'm happy and moved.”

Buhari congratulates Amusan

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari and former vice-president Atiku Abubakar have lauded Tobi Amusan’s feat at the World’s Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, United States.

And President Muhammadu Buhari has taken to social media to congratulate the gold medalist, expressing excitement.

He tweeted:

“I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating Tobi Amusan and her stellar performance, at the World Athletics Championships 2022.
"Her new World Record and Gold Medal have brought excitement and joy and hope to all of us, and made our national anthem resonate on a global stage.”

Ese Brume wins silver at World Athletics Championships

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigeria’s Ese Brume will return home with a medal after winning silver on the last day of the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, United States.

Brume leapt 7.02m to finish second in the women’s long jump despite that she barely made it into the final with her last attempt to book an automatic qualification spot.

The 26-year-old came second behind Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo of Germany, who leapt 7.12m.
