Africa’s fastest human Ferdinand Omanyala is aiming for fireworks as he gears up to race in his home country Kenya for the first time since September last year.

The 100 metres record holder will grace the Athletics Kenya meeting at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday March 3 in what promises to be an exciting event.

Ahead of the event, Omanyala spoke on his expectations after breaking the national record in the 60m sprint three times in 2022.

Omanyala says running on home soil will likely bring good vibes and he is keen on putting up a strong performance at the Nyayo Stadium.

"It will be a great feeling to run on home soil after quite a long time. I promise to put on a show for everyone considering there will be a record turnout in the stadium. It's all about taking it one day at a time,” the sprinter said as quoted by The Star.
“It won't be easy competing against other sprinters who will be looking to get a good result. It's good to see many more coming into the sport,”

Notably, he was absent from the two Athetics Kenya meetings in February held at the Nyayo National Stadium and at Moi Stadium Kisumu, as he was in France competing in the indoor meetings.

Record-breaking Omanyala

Omanyala’s outing in France proved to be a very productive one as he initially broke Paulvince Obuon’s record of 6.70 seconds, before outdoing himself to set the record at 6.57 seconds.

The sprinter has previously said he was using the 60-metre races to improve his reaction off the blocks.

On March 18, Omanyala will head to Serbia for the 18th World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Omanyala joins National Police Service

In December 2021, Sports Brief reported of how Omanyala set himself up for more success after joining the National Police Service.

At the time, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai called on the sprinter to maintain his discipline in order to remain at the very top for as long as possible.

On his part, Omanyala thanked the government for the support, promising to offer his best on the tracks.
