The national soccer team representing Zimbabwe is the Zimbabwean national male football team popularly known as 'The Warriors'. The Warriors' coach, Mapeza named a 30 man squad to appear for the AFCON 2022 matches. They however lost in the Group B stage matches to Senegal and Malawi 1-0 and 2-1.

The Zimbabwe National Football Team is a football club with a rich history. Established in 1965; the club has been playing for almost 58 years as of 2022. The Warriors are 6-time COSAFA champions of 2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2017-2018.

History

Before 1965, Zimbabwe's national team was the Southern Rodhesia Football Team. In 1965, the reforms introduced an all-inclusive multiracial soccer team to represent the country.

Zimbabwe national football team AFCON 2022

The Zimbabwe National Football team lost two matches in the Group B stage matches against Senegal and Malawi. As a result, the squad may have lost their chance to move forward. Despite that, the Warriors are looking forward to winning their next match against Guinea. The Group B match will be held on the 18th of January 2022, at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT) at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, Yaounde.

Defender Jordan Zemura expressed the team's positive spirit ahead of the upcoming match,

"We are ready to face Guinea and our main objective is to win. It is being a good experience, and personally I will leave this country with a lot of learning."

The Warriors' disappointment with the losses was evident when the captain, Knowledge Musoma spoke in a pre-match interview.

“The players we missed were a huge blow for us. They are players who have been a great help to us during the playoffs. We played very well against Senegal, holding them down until twenty seconds from the end. We had chances to win against Malawi, especially in the first half. So, we will try to retain the positive to get a good result against Guinea.”

Has Zimbabwe ever won the African Cup of Nations?

Zimbabwe has never won the Africa Cup of Nations. The Warriors has dropped off in the finals of the AFCON group stage in all their AFCON appearances.

Who is the Zimbabwe National Football team captain? Midfielder and striker Knowledge Musona is the current squad captain. The winner of the ABSA Premiership Top scorer, 2010/2011 made his debut in 2010 in a match between South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Current coach Norman Mapeza played in the national team from 1993 to 2001. He also served as the coach/caretaker manager of the club in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2021. His appointment by ZIFA followed the exit of Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic.
